- The contractual guarantee that covers events that are due to the mover.
- The damage guarantee which covers all risks incurred by your belongings during the move (all risks).
Therefore, to provide you with the best guarantees, it is essential to fill out a declaration of value in which you must mention the total value of your belongings entrusted to the movers as well as the individual value of each object with a value of more than one hundred and fifty euros.
If you notice any damage upon delivery of your furniture, you must make precise and detailed reservations on the declaration of end of work and confirm them by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt within three working days of delivery (excluding Sundays and public holidays).
Depending on the nature of the damage suffered, it is advisable to provide us with any supporting documents (purchase invoice, repair estimate, etc.) that will allow us to assess the damage as accurately as possible.

Before admitting a new member, the Chambre Syndicale du Déménagement verifies that the company regularly carries out the activity of removal and controls the performance of the means implemented (qualified personnel, adapted materials, respected regulations...).
In the event of a company's failure, the members have set up a guarantee fund which makes it possible to offer compensation as soon as the conditions for the implementation of the company's responsibility are met. This institution provides these guarantees:
- Legality: to join, a company must prove that it complies with the legal rules specific to the moving industry and have a minimum of years of existence.
- Ethics: a strict code of ethics governs the contracts between a member of the Chamber and his clients (quotation, liability, etc.).
- Financial capacity: the Chambre Syndicale manages a guarantee fund that can compensate users of a defaulting mover.
- Human and technical capacity: the Chamber verifies the qualification of the personnel, the use of adapted materials, the respect by the company of the regulations and the professional deontology.

When you move, you must ask yourself the question of the risks related to the move (damage to furniture, theft during the journey made by your mover)...
To begin with, if you wish to use a mover, you should know that he will be responsible for the goods entrusted to him within the limits of the basic contractual guarantee, i.e. his contractual responsibility.
In order to ensure the best possible conditions, here are some precautions to take when you move.
Still called the mover's civil liability, it is mandatory and covers the contractual obligations of the service provider. You are entitled to ask your mover to present it to you in order to know the amount of the refunds by disaster.
This guarantee has a ceiling, the amount of which depends on the type of contract subscribed and the insurance company of the mover. However, please note that in general, the amount of the reimbursement per object does not exceed 150 €.
As the insurance contracts stipulate, "the case of the screw proper to the thing, the cases of force majeure, thefts and aggressions, the fault of the customer, and the not responsible traffic accident" are prejudices not involving the responsibility of the remover.
In fact, if a theft occurs or if your furniture is damaged following an accident caused by an uninsured vehicle, you will not be compensated in any case. In order to be covered against all damages, you can subscribe to an additional insurance with your mover.
This is an optional insurance covering all damages that may occur during your move. It is called "all risks" and allows you to be better compensated. The inherent vice of the furniture and the intentional fault are not covered.
Note however that this damage guarantee may include different levels of compensation depending on your mover (the thresholds and reimbursement rates are applied according to a depreciation coefficient that may vary from one contract to another).
In addition, you can also ask your insurer for information because some home contracts provide guarantees when you move.
It determines the terms of reimbursement in case of damage and the maximum compensation per object. In this declaration, you indicate the global value of your furniture and the individual value of each object if it exceeds 150€.
The declaration of value must be submitted at least 10 days before the start of the move. This declaration makes the mover responsible for your goods and determines the terms of compensation in case of damage.
In order to facilitate the task, you can rely on your comprehensive home insurance, taking care of the changes that have occurred since its subscription (value of the assets)... Then gather the invoices that you have kept, be aware that the value of clothing and appliances decreases from 10 to 20% per year.
If you have problems evaluating the value of certain objects, refer to the average prices found in stores. Take the time to reason object by object and not in a global way. As far as possible, keep high value objects with you.
If this is not possible, inform your mover. Above all, do not underestimate the value of your belongings and be careful not to forget any.
Jewelry and all personal documents (license, ID...) are included in your comprehensive home insurance but should not be included in your declaration of value. Indeed, moving companies refuse to transport them.
An accurate declaration of value will allow you to have a sufficient level of guarantee for the reconstitution of your furniture (repair costs, restoration, compensation)... The declaration of value is a form provided by the mover. You must return it signed at least 10 days before the date of the move. It will allow us to calculate the amount of your compensation in case of loss or damage of your goods.
The declaration of value is essential, without it, the removal contract is considered void.
If you are moving on your own, it is possible that your comprehensive homeowner's policy covers any damage related to the move. If so, ask your insurer for an extension of coverage. You should also consider taking out a "vehicle damage" insurance policy.
